Bulgaria Adoption Program Overview

Children Available
* Children 18 months and older are available for adoption.
* Many sibling groups and older children are also available.

Applicant(s) Age
*Ages are very flexible

Marriage Status & History
* Married couples and single women may adopt.

Divorce
* Applicants can have two or fewer divorces per person.

Children in Family
*Applicants with fewer than seven children in the home are able to adopt.

Income
* Applicants must have a positive net worth and meet U.S. Federal Poverty guidelines. Other income requirements are evaluated on a case by case basis.

Citizenship
* At least one of the adoptive parents must be a US Citizen.

Travel
* Bulgaria requires two trips.
* The first trip is approximately five days.
* The second trip is approximately seven days.

Time Frame
* Approximate time frame from application through finalization of the adoption is 20 to 36 months (12 months for waiting child)

Bulgaria Document Authentication

- Application (personal data, short family history, financial situation)
-Document certifying that the adoptive parent has not been deprived of custody rights
- Home Study
- Medical Certificate
- Police Certificate
- Marriage Certificate
- Power of attorney
- Approval by the USCIS (I-171H)
