The filing procedures for filing the I-600A changed in May 2004. Prospective parents must file the I-600A and the fee without fingerprint cards. Your local district office will notify you of the date, time and location for an appointment to have your fingerprints done. The fee increased to $525 plus an additional $70 per person for fingerprints. Anyone living in the home that is 18 years or older needs to be fingerprinted. Only one I-600A is required no matter how many children are to be adopted.

"Immigration of Adopted and Prospective Adopted Children" is highly recommended.  The booklet is available along with all the required forms in your local Immigration office.

To request the INS forms and seven day delivery, call 1-800-375-5283.  This toll free line is operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  You may also request forms online at http://www.uscis.gov.

It is advised that all adoptive parents verify the date you were fingerprinted by USCIS (INS). These fingerprints expire 15 months after they are taken. Therefore, it is your responsibility to request that your fingerprints be updated if they are within 3 months of expiring. If your fingerprints have expired, you will not receive an exit visa for your child from the US Embassy. You must be an advocate for your adoption by making sure your fingerprints have not expired before your adoption is complete.
