We had a great family. We were in our early 40's, all of our children slept through the night, were weaned and potty trained, had developed language and were over the frustration of the terrible twos. We had two rambunctious boys and a wonderful daughter. Our boys had each other, but our daughter seemed to be missing something. It wasn't apparent to her or anyone else, but from my perspective, she might miss out on the closeness of a sisterly relationship like the one I have shared with my sister through the years.
Our whole adoption experience with EAC was most professional. I had researched adoption for over a year prior to signing on with EAC. Our situation was very different from the average family that chooses to adopt. My husband had just finished medical school and we already had three young children. We had a mountain of debt, supportive parents and great prospects for the future. We didn’t want to wait until we could "afford" to adopt. EAC was the only agency who had all the answers to our questions. I interviewed several agencies, but kept going back to EAC.
My trip to Guatemala was very quick and now seems surreal. I went alone and had the best time of my life. I stayed in a wonderful hotel with great food. At the hotel, EAC had American staff members 100% of the time and kept a hospitality suite as a meeting place for just the EAC families who travel to Guatemala. The room was stocked with snacks and baby accoutrements which were very useful. It was a pleasure to share baby stories with other families at tea or happy hour. I was escorted everywhere I went. It was like a mini vacation; all I had to do was follow EAC instructions, eat great food, visit with other families, and care for one cute little baby. I simply had a blast!
I say the adoption climate is good in Guatemala. I trust EAC and recommend them without hesitation. GO FOR IT!
Bringing home our baby was the sweetest thing I have ever done. My children are my treasure.
